We have a Ghana Film Industry and If we are to ensure a Ghana Film Economy, then it's about time we update Ghana's Copyrights Act 2005 and to also ensure a new Ghana film industry stakeholder engagement is assembled by calling on:
The Ghana Actors Guild (Performance Rights Owners),
The Ghana Writers Union (Authors Rights Owners),
The Film Producers Association of Ghana (Producer's/ Production Rights Owners),
The Film & Television Crew Association of Ghana,
The Film Director Guild of Ghana,
The Film Distributors Association of Ghana (Rights Holders),
Ghana Film And Television Association (GAFTA),
National Film And Television Institute (NAFTI),
New Media Content Distributors (Rights Holders),
Audiovisual Rights Association of Ghana (ARSOG) (CMO for Rights Owners),
to finally comb through the Legislative Instrument in support of The Film Development & Classification 2016, Act 935 which is currently before parliament and to have that L.I passed into Law which when done will guarantee a film economy.
The core of the L.I in support of Act 935 which gave birth to the National Film Authority (NFA) is to amongst others ensure we have a Ghana Film Economy by ensuring all the provisions as stipulated in the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Rights for Performers is Captured in the Copyrights Act amendment and also captured in the Copyrights Regulations and the Legislative Instrument in support of Film Development and Classification 2016, Act 935. There's more.
