I am a Christian and I really don’t have any problem with the position of the lady. In the Bible and Koran, we have some women who were not legally the first wives but married men who were already married. One Philosopher rightly puts it this way: It is better to be a legitimate wife in a Polygynous marriage than to be an illegitimate wife in a monogamous marriage. This makes a lot of sense to me, though I know some people will disagree with me.
If we go into the Bible and the Koran, we have some reputable men who had more than one wife and even had children with their “illegitimate “ wives. Abraham, the father of all the faithfuls had Sarah as his wife and gave birth to Isaac. Prior to that, he had taken Hagar as a wife and had had Ishmael with her..
Jacob married two sisters and had babies with them and even their maidservants out of such relationships came the Twelve sons who formed the Kingdom of Israel. Marrying and becoming a second wife was allowed in Judaism and was never condemned even at the time of Jesus. How many wives did Hosea have? What about people like Eli, Kings David who was seen as the Ideal king of Israel, and Solomon, the supposed wisest person to live? When the People of Israel went wayward and Amos, the Prophet of Fire lambasted them, he quoted God as Saying “And I GAVE YOU WIVES” to show the ungratefulness of the people of Israel. How many wives and Concubines did Solomon have but was never condemned but seen in the Bible and in History as the wisest man that ever lived. Marrying more than one woman was allowed in Judaism so long as the women can be treated equally and appropriately.
In Islam, adherents are allowed to marry up to Five women if they can be treated equally. The Prophet Mohammed had more than one wife and that was, and has never been condemned as wrong and sinful in Islam.
In African Traditional Religion, the men are allowed to marry many wives but should be allowed to treat all the women fairly and take good care of all their wives and children. That is not a sin.
It is better to marry more than one so that the women without husbands do not engage in prostitution. In some societies, even Polygyny and Polyandry are allowed and not seen as a crime and a sin.
If we can go into Africa History, it will be found that only men went to wars and get killed in battle. Women whose husbands were killed in war in most societies were allowed to become Second, or other wives to be taken care of and their Children. That was allowed. You really don’t expect Mahama, Akuffo Addo, Kuffour, and Jeremiah John Rawlings as well as Frank Agyena-Karikari and the Asantehene to take care of a woman and her children for free. I am of the view that women could be the other wives of men who can afford so that Sexual Promiscuity can be prevented.
Growing up in some parts of Ghana, Polygyny was allowed as such families could live very simply and happily in their homes. They don’t become Social Burdens on their communities. I think I should be getting ready to be a Moslem or an African Traditionalist to marry more than one and prevent Sexual Promiscuity which all Ghanaians detest. I think that I can get no opposition from any NPP and NDC people. After all, I shall be joining their gurus. Hahahaha. Akuffo Addo, Mahama, and Kuffour should welcome me to their fold. Hahahahaha. You can laugh with me.

Read Matthew 19: 1-12. Monogamy has been God's blueprint from the outset. It's evident in the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis, and that intent was reiterated by Jesus in Matthew 19.

Polygamy in the Bible was a deviation from that norm; it's one of those instances when thought he always knew better than God. The fact that God "allowed" the practice doesnt mean He condoned it. Note the difference. As far as our bodies and appetites are concerned, sinfulness always feel better than righteousness. So the fact that society has accepted a "norm" that increases the pleasures/happiness of people doesnt mean God condones it.
