  That is the modern way of trying to put a gloss on an ugly situation or a terrible failure that was 100% preventable.
  THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN “AMICABLE” SEPARATION IN MARRIAGE BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS A RESIDUE OF PAIN, DISAPPOINTMENT, REGRET AND AN ABIDING SENSE OF FAILURE.
  Selfishness, lack of consideration and respect for the needs of the other person lie at the heart of most marriage failures. Any person who goes into marriage only for what they can get out of it rather than seeing it as a joint venture that requires total commitment, constant effort and sacrifice on their part will be very disappointed. Marriage is an investment from start to finish and like every good investment in this life, you get a great reward and a bumper harvest only after you have put in the hard work, sacrifice, self-denial, perseverance and discipline.
  GOOD MARRIAGES JUST DON’T SIMPLY HAPPEN. They are the direct result of great effort and all the above. MARRIAGE IS BEST SEEN AS A MARATHON RACE. Anybody who has ever ran and won or qualified in a Marathon race knows that the toughest part of the race is always the earliest stages (the first few kilometres or miles) when every muscle and joint aches and the temptation to give up is greatest. However, those who persevere are always surprised to find that as they press on it gets easier (this is called the “second wind”) and the applause starts to flow long before they get to the finishing line to receive their trophy, certificate and recognition.
  I AM ALWAYS ASTOUNDED WHEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE REACHED THE TOP OF THEIR PROFESSIONS THROUGH SHEER HARD WORK, DISCIPLINE, SACRIFICE, PERSEVERENCE IN SPITE OF PAIN AND DISCOMFORT FAIL TO SEE THAT THE SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY TO MARRIAGE.
