For those of you wondering, yes, you can still be Detained for civil or criminal offenses for up to 48 hours just to fvck with you. Beyound that they have to either charge you or hold you because you are a threat to yourself, others, or possibly "abscond". If no charges after 48 hours, You can file a writ of habeas corpus to force an appearance before judge to explain why you are being held without charges. The judge will issue a writ of mandamus that will either effectuate your release or reason for being in custody.

Complete nonsense and waste of tax payers' resources. Defaming a person is a civil matter and the person complaining about being defamed should bring action against the accused in a civil court and the complainant should bear the burden of handling these civil matters, and the government has no business getting involved by arresting or prosecuting persons suspected of defaming others. The Police should only be involved where a person makes threats against another or is harassing another person. Time for Ghana to revisit some of its civil and criminal laws instead of wasting time trying to amend the Constitution to allow a President to hold office for five years instead of the current four year term. No wonder the Ghana Police and courts don't have time to handle real criminal issues.
