Ghanaian broadcaster Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has shared her thoughts on a Dansoman High Court ruling regarding the divorce of business mogul Richard Nii Armah Quaye and his ex-wife, Joana Armah Quaye.
The court awarded one-third of a house in Dansoman to Joana and two-thirds to Richard Nii Armah Quaye as part of the settlement. Joana was also granted GH¢300,000, far less than the GH¢50 million she had requested.
Reacting to this development in a TikTok video on April 9, 2026, Afia Pokua advised singles to take lessons from the judgment before settling down.
GH¢300k, Vehicles, 3 Bedrooms: Here's a breakdown of the court's award to RNAQ's ex-wife
“The judge who presided over Richard Nii Armah Quaye and his former wife Joana Quaye’s divorce case made some significant pronouncements, and I think we should all take note because he didn’t grant the woman most of the things she requested.
“She asked for GH¢50 million but was awarded GH¢300,000. She also requested some cars and houses, but did not receive all of them. This should serve as a big lesson to young couples and those considering marriage,” she said.
The broadcaster further emphasised that singles should focus not only on wedding ceremonies but also on how both partners can acquire their own properties during marriage.
“Before this case, the Supreme Court had already ruled that not all properties acquired during marriage are considered marital property. This is a big lesson, so we shouldn’t focus only on weddings and trending videos while ignoring these important issues,” she added.
High Court ruling
The High Court awarded one-third of a house in Dansoman to Joana and two-thirds to Richard Nii Armah Quaye.
The court also granted Joana a lump sum of GH¢300,000 instead of the GH¢50 million she had sought.
Custody of their three children was awarded to her, while her ex-husband was granted visitation rights, including access during school vacations.
Joana Quaye heads to Appeals Court over 'inadequate' GH¢300k settlement
Joana Quaye, co-founder, shareholder, and director of Quick Credit Microfinance Company Limited (now Bills), had filed for the divorce settlement and requested that the court order her ex-husband to pay GH¢50 million.
However, the presiding judge, Justice Kofi Dorgu, a Court of Appeal judge with additional High Court responsibilities, awarded her GH¢300,000 in the distribution of matrimonial property.
The Supreme Court has set clear guidelines for the distribution of marital property after divorce.
The judge reportedly stated that the GH¢300,000 award was intended, in part, to discourage divorces.
