'I cried the most in my life when my mom died' - Stonebwoy

Dancehall/reggae artiste Stonebwoy has opened up about one of the most painful phases of his life, describing the day his mother died as the moment he cried the most in his entire life.

Speaking with Kafui Dey, he revealed that he received the news of his mother’s passing while he was in New York for his first BET Awards.

Prior to her death, he had been informed of her ill health but was later assured she was recovering.

“That was the moment I knew I cried the most in my life. It was depressing. Something happens to you that you can’t control, and you just pray to God to be able to go through that period,” he said.

Stonebwoy recounted that he had spoken to his mother shortly before, while she was attending a funeral in the village.

After winning the BET, he said his sister called to inform him that their mother had collapsed at home and was taken to the hospital, where doctors said she was improving.

Upon landing in Ghana, Stonebwoy rushed straight to the 37 Military Hospital, leaving his luggage unclaimed at the airport.

He described the moment as devastating, noting that his mother had been his greatest support system.

“My mom was my rock. We were connected intuitively in everything. Even when she passed, I think she waited for me to get home. Immediately, I got to 37, and I was the first person they brought the body to. I was rushing, I left my bag at the airport,” he recalled.
