Ali Nuhu is a Nigerian actor and the MD of Nigerian Film Corporation
Renowned Nigerian actor and the MD of Nigerian Film Corporation, Ali Nuhu, has explained why he made the decision to stop kissing in movies, citing his religion, cultural values, and audience expectations as key reasons.
Speaking in a recent interview on the With Chude podcast, the actor explained that the choice was a personal one, influenced by his background and the people who support his work.
“I stopped kissing in movies because of my religion, the perception of my people and my tradition. I had to really consider all these, so I said I wasn’t going to do it again,” he said.
According to him, entertainers have a responsibility to understand and respect their audiences, especially those who form the core of their support base.
“Every entertainer does what they do because they want to entertain people. I asked myself who the large chunk of my audience was, and I realised they’re people from the north. Why would I want to displease them?” he stated.
Ali Nuhu emphasised that his decision was not influenced by pressure from anyone, but rather a conscious effort to honor his roots.

“I decided to do what they want because I feel they deserve that respect. It just made sense to me and it’s not like someone warned me or anything,” he shared.
He further encouraged fellow entertainers to always consider their cultural backgrounds when making career decisions.
“I feel most entertainers should take where they come from into consideration,” he noted.
Ali Nuhu also admitted that he was never entirely comfortable with such scenes in the first place.
“To be honest, I was never comfortable kissing in movies. Most of them looked fake, so it was a relief when I made the decision to stop,” he added.
