Media personality Ernest Adu Kumi has strongly criticised the uncertainty surrounding the venue for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, describing the situation as unacceptable.
Speaking during a discussion on Hitz FM on April 16, 2026, he expressed frustration over the fact that such a prestigious national event is still struggling to secure a venue just weeks before it is scheduled to take place.
“We’ve been talking about this, but we are not angry enough as people. Why should it be that such a prestigious event like TGMA, that’s our biggest music awards, whether you like it or not? A few weeks before the event, we would be struggling for a venue. This is absurd and unacceptable,” he said.
Ernest Adu Kumi further blamed the situation on a lack of accountability, suggesting that Ghanaians often fail to question leaders and institutions when promises are made.
“When our people come and they give us promises, because of our political inclinations, we don’t probe it. How many times haven’t we been promised venues for events and all these things?” he quizzed.
He stressed that the awards scheme is meant to celebrate hardworking artistes who have contributed significantly to the entertainment industry, and therefore deserve better planning and organisation.
“At a time like this, that we have to award the hardworking artistes who have broken their backs over the years to feed us with chunks of songs that we’ve used to entertain ourselves, console and encourage ourselves, it’s as if no one cares,” he lamented.
He called on the public to speak up and demand accountability to prevent such last-minute challenges in the future.
“It’s about time that we speak up, make noise and question; we have to probe and put them to their words so that we wouldn’t wait for a day like this to come and we would go begging,” he added.
