Ghanaian Highlife musician Fameye has expressed disappointment over his nominations for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, describing them as inadequate compared to his contributions over the past year.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV on April 16, 2026, the singer stated that although award decisions are beyond his control, he believes he deserved recognition in more major categories.

“If it were up to me, I would have taken the awards with speed. The awards belong to an organisation and people have to vote. They’re just adding up some energies, but I know I deserve to win some categories,” he said.

Fameye noted that his previous wins are proof of his impact in the industry, insisting that he would not have been recognized before if he did not deserve it.

“If I don’t deserve to get an award, I wouldn’t have won one last year,” he stated.

The artiste further disclosed that he felt disappointed when he saw this year’s nominations, as he expected to be included in top categories such as Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Record of the Year.

“I feel the nominations are small for me. I was sad when I saw the TGMA nominations. I wish I were in the Songwriter of the Year category, Artiste of the Year, and Record of the Year,” he shared.

Although he downplayed the importance of Popular Song of the Year, he admitted that a nomination in that category would still have been welcome.

“Popular song of the Year that I don’t really pay attention to, but if they should nominate me there, it wouldn’t have been bad,” he said.

Fameye also pointed to his strong connection with fans as evidence of his impact, noting that audiences often sing along passionately to his songs during performances.

“I have a lot of songs that people can actually sing. Whenever I’m performing those songs, the response I get from the audience is mostly more than expected. That’s when some people realised I’m underrated,” he explained.

He highlighted his consistency in releasing hit songs over the years, questioning why he has never been nominated for Artiste of the Year despite his track record.

“I’ve been very consistent with releasing hit songs every year, but they’ve never nominated me in the Artiste of the Year category,” he added.
