Fast-rising Afrobeats artiste, Marvin Ukanigbe, popularly known as Mavo, has become the latest celebrity victim of street extortion in Lagos after hoodlums reportedly attacked his vehicle when he refused to give them money.
A clip he uploaded on Tuesday on his Snapchat handle showed a group of young men, commonly referred to as “area boys”, surrounding his car in the Island area of Lagos State. One of them was seen charging at the vehicle as he threw a stone at it in anger.
The confrontation reportedly began after the group demanded money from the artiste and escalated when he declined.
In the footage, the attackers appeared visibly agitated as the car moved slowly through the area, with shouting and stone-throwing captured in the background.
The incident has since sparked concern online, especially as similar cases have been reported in parts of Lagos.
In a follow-up post shared on his Snapchat handle, Mavo appeared to suggest that some of the suspects may have been apprehended, though this could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
