Upcoming artistes are eager to ‘blow’ but can’t perform at that level – Don Jazzy

Nigerian music executive and Mavin label boss Don Jazzy has shared his observations about many upcoming artistes.

According to him, while many aspire to become big stars like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, not all possess the ability to perform at that level.

Don Jazzy explained that becoming a phenomenal artiste goes beyond talent alone. It requires a combination of factors, including personality, stage presence, and overall appeal.

The veteran producer emphasised that while some individuals are exceptional songwriters, they may lack the capacity and “likeability” needed to thrive as performing artistes.

“I feel like some people are too quick to want to become the next Wiz, David, or Burna. Some of them are actually dope as writers, but being on stage and being an artiste is not the same. How is your personality? Are you likeable? Do people naturally want to vibe with you? Because all these things are going to matter at the end of the day,” he said.

He further advised that, beyond these qualities, aspiring artistes must honestly assess whether they truly enjoy performing and being on stage, as that passion is essential for success in the music industry.
