It discourages creatives when deserving TGMA winners are robbed – Jay Bahd

Ghanaian musician Jay Bahd has stated that although he is open to attending the Telecel Ghana Music Awards if invited, he dislikes situations where deserving artistes are denied recognition.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM on April 21, 2026, Jay Bahd explained that his main goal in music is not receiving awards, but rather building a good life for himself and his family.

“We are working, so if TGMA calls me for an award, I will gladly go for it. I’m not really bothered because I just want to make it in life. I want to be able to take good care of myself and my family,” he said.

According to him, his ultimate vision is to help people through his music and create songs that positively impact lives.

“My vision is to help people and for my music to touch souls. Some of those who listen to our songs could be richer than us. If someone succeeds in what they’re doing through my music, it’s an award for me,” he stated.

Jay Bahd, however, stressed that despite not making awards his top priority, he still believes fairness is important.

“But despite this, if TGMA calls me for an award, I have nothing against it, so I will honor it. One thing I don’t like is knowing fully well that someone deserves an award, but they would hand over the award to someone else,” he shared.

The musician noted that such situations discourage creatives who work hard and deserve recognition.

Jay Bahd further indicated that audience support means more to him than awards.

“When that happens, it discourages us as creatives. At the end of the day, that wasn’t the main purpose of me starting music. Even if I don’t get awards, people show up for my show and they respond to my music during performance. Since I won’t go hungry, I don’t mind,” he added.
