Celestine Donkor's house was raided on April 22
Celebrated Ghanaian gospel musician Celestine Donkor has had her home raided by some personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service without a search warrant.
Her husband and manager, Kofi Donkor, first made the allegation in a Facebook post on April 23, 2026, with a CCTV picture showing some men in camouflage uniforms scaling the electric fence into the couple’s home.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, Kofi Donkor gave a full account of the incident, which transpired on April 22, 2026.
“I had a meeting in town, so I left home at about 11.50 a.m, and there was nobody in the house, so I locked the gate myself. So at about 12.57 pm, my CCTV camera started giving me notifications. I opened and I saw about four men in uniform on the compound. I knew very well that there was nobody in the house. I got concerned,” he shared.
According to Donkor, his CCTV had a console in the compound which he could use to communicate with people.
“So I called, and then one of them responded. So I said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘I am from Weija immigration.’ I said, ‘What is your name?’ He said he wouldn't give me his name. I said, ‘Okay, what are you doing on my property?’ He said they were there two months ago, and they have followed up to check on some Nigerian nationals living in the house.
“I said, ‘I guess you are on the wrong property.’ He said no. They were there two months ago," he narrated.
He further noted that despite his efforts to convince the officials that he was Ghanaian and had no knowledge of any Nigerian nationals, they did not budge.
“He said no. I have bought Nigerians there, and they were doing cyber-fraud. That's what he claimed. And I said, ‘No. By the way, my gate is locked. So how did you get on my compounds? He said that's none of my business,” he added.
Following the conversation, Donkor noted that the officials attempted to break into the house itself but left after a while.
“They opened one of the doors. Two of them went behind. I saw signs that they attempted to break in through my kitchen door,” he said.
He added that after he reported the case to the Mallam police station, he moved to the immigration office at Weija to confirm if the search was indeed genuine.
“I met the second in command. His name is Mr Obosu. He confirmed that some of his men had searched the area. So, he called the squad leader, who confirmed that they had broken into a house and spoken to someone via the CCTV console," he said.
Kofi Donkor noted that the office offered an apology over the incident but stated that he would still take on the case legally.
“They apologised. They were begging me not to proceed, but I told them I was too late, and I know that my rights have been violated, so I will want to seek proper legal measures," he noted.
When asked how the family responded to the incident, he noted, “Fortunately, she (Celestine Donkor) is not in town. She flew out of the country yesterday, so I'm just staying with my last daughter. When it happened, she was also not home; she was in school. But well and good, we are all fine, we are very okay,” he said.
