Ghanaian rapper Medikal has addressed the ongoing legal dispute surrounding his “Alabaster Box” project, revealing that efforts were initially made to resolve the matter amicably.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on April 22, 2026, the artiste disclosed that the issue is currently before the court, although he would have preferred an out-of-court settlement.
“The issue is still in court, my lawyer reached out to me yesterday concerning the proceeds and everything, but we’re still on it. We could have solved it amicably, I think they couldn’t wait for us to meet and proceeded to court,” he said.
According to Medikal, discussions had already been initiated through his representatives in the UK, with plans to meet and resolve concerns raised by the opposing party before legal action was taken.
“I spoke to one of my reps in the UK to talk to them so we scheduled a meeting. They brought other stuff out that we should take down, then the next day, we saw the court thing. It happened so fast and within 48 hours,” he stated.
He shared that although there were intentions to dialogue, the situation escalated quickly, making legal proceedings unavoidable.
Medikal further noted that his team complied with requests to take down the song and disclose revenue generated within a short period after its release.

“I wish we could take it out of court, but they’ve already taken legal action. When it happened, they put a statement out that we should delete the bit of the thing we sampled.
“We wanted to talk about it, but we realized they brought the whole thing down, the clauses saying we should take it down, let’s bring the revenue of the streams, how much we’ve made within those 24 hours, that’s why we deleted it because we were honoring their request,” he explained.
The rapper expressed disappointment over the development, describing the individuals involved as people he has long admired.
“It’s sad because these are father figures. I used to listen to them on my way to school every morning on the radio,” he said.
He also issued an apology, explaining that there was no intention to disrespect or discredit anyone’s work.
“I apologize if they feel like I disrespected them by not reaching out before doing a project like that. sometimes, when you’re in the studio, certain phrases play in your mind, and you just want to add to your creation with no intention of stealing or discrediting someone’s work,’ he noted.
Medikal emphasised his respect for the original creators, stating that he appreciates their influence and wishes the matter had not escalated to its current stage.
“If for anything, I actually appreciate them, so I wish things didn’t get to where they are now,” he added.
