Ghanaian comedian and actor Prince Kwame Amoabeng, popularly known as Jeneral Ntatia, has shared insights into the financial potential of comedy.

He stated that the craft can be pursued as a full-time career despite its early challenges.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on April 29, 2026, Jeneral Ntatia explained that while starting in comedy can be difficult, persistence and the right mindset are key to success.

According to him, many upcoming comedians give up too early because they expect instant recognition.

“You can take comedy as a full-time career. Beginning, it’s very difficult. I remember when one guy came to and said he wanted me to mentor him and he wanted to shoot skits. I agreed and I started coaching him on how to shoot and write skits,” he said.

He recounted how the young comedian became discouraged after producing a few videos without gaining public attention.

“He shot four videos and he one day told me that no one notices him whenever he’s in town. People don’t recognise him, so he was kind of feeling bad. I told him that’s where he failed because he doesn’t have the bright mentality to push it. Do it and have fun with it. When the time comes that God will open doors for you, you will enjoy it,” he shared.

Jeneral Ntatia further emphasised that comedy can be very lucrative once a performer reaches a certain level.

“I think comedy really pays well when you get to a point where you can charge big amounts of money. The highest I’ve charged for a stand-up comedy in Ghana was about GH₵40,000,” he noted.

He disclosed that the amount was earned from a single performance at a corporate event.

“That was in one night and I performed for 30 minutes. It was a corporate event. I was going to mention that amount for them to negotiate, but they didn’t. I was so shocked and I wished I had mentioned a higher amount,” he added.
