The two dancehall acts have been feuding for over a decade
If one is familiar with the Ghanaian music scene, then it is well known that there have been several “beefs” within the industry.
However, entertainment critic Nana Frimpong Ziega believes that the particular feud between Dancehall acts Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale is the most useless the industry has ever witnessed.
Ziega, during a discussion on Adom FM on May 2, 2026, said the beef between the two acts has never benefited the industry or the country in any way.
“The most useless beef in the history of the Ghanaian music industry is that of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. Their feud hasn’t helped us one bit,” he said.
According to Ziega, considering the level of influence these artistes have over their respective fan bases, where fans often mirror their actions, nothing positive has come out of their rivalry.
The entertainment critic further argued that the feud is not even helping their musical growth. He noted that anyone who has paid close attention to their careers since 2015 would recognise a decline in competitive output.
Nana Frimpong Ziega said Shatta Wale has dropped in terms of the quality of music he used to deliver to audiences compared to now.
Pastor Ansah apologises after ‘mocking’ Stonebwoy
He added that this has also affected Stonebwoy’s output, as Shatta Wale no longer provides strong competition for the BHIM Nation president, leading to a dip in the overall quality of music.
“It is not even developing them musically. Listen to them very carefully. Stonebwoy was giving us good music back-to-back, but today I don’t see it that way anymore. I’m not saying it’s not good, but he could have done better.
“He has become lazy because Shatta Wale isn’t giving him competition. Musically, Shatta Wale has dropped drastically. If Shatta Wale goes back to the ‘Gringo’ and ‘Mahama Paper’ days, you will see Stonebwoy rise again,” he argued.
There has been a long-standing debate over who holds the title of “King of Dancehall,” which has grown from a simple discussion into an intense rivalry among some of the country’s biggest artistes.
The main contenders for the title are Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Reggae/Dancehall singer Samini, who is widely regarded as a veteran in the Ghanaian music space.
The competition for the title has led to heightened tensions among the artistes, resulting in social media jabs, diss tracks, heated exchanges during interviews, and more.
The rivalry has largely been fueled by the artistes themselves, often instigated by Shatta Wale, who consistently claimed the title in his music and frequently calls out his competitors on social media and in interviews, especially after winning Artiste of the Year at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards with his hit song “Dancehall King.”
At present, tensions remain particularly high between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, whose long-running feud has attracted widespread media attention since around 2014, although it dates back even further.
