Shatta Wale is a Ghanaian dancehall musician
Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale says he is taking a more deliberate approach to managing his music brand and professional engagements, stressing the need for structure, value and respect in the creative industry.
In a reflective social media post, the artiste looked back on the early days of his career and how those experiences influenced the way he now handles industry dealings.
He said that in the beginning, he often attended meetings that offered little financial or professional value, describing them as based more on “vibes” than on clear agreements.
According to him, those moments taught him to quietly observe the industry and adjust his approach over time.
The Kakai hitmaker said his current position is rooted in the lessons he learned during those formative years, adding that access to him and his brand is now determined by professional standards.
His comments suggest a strategic shift in how he manages his image, brand and business relationships.
He wrote, “When I started, people will call you for meetings… no money… no respect… just vibes. I studied the game quietly. I changed how I moved. Today, nobody gets access to me for free. Soon, every African artiste will understand why.”
He also indicated that his approach carries a wider message for African artistes about industry awareness and self-worth, suggesting that others may eventually understand the reasoning behind his decisions.
Shatta Wale has long advocated for musicians to take ownership of their craft, set clear professional boundaries, and ensure their work is properly valued in the industry.
