Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has fired at critics who criticised business mogul Osei Kwame Despite and members of the East Legon Executive Fitness Club over their purchase of expensive alcoholic beverages as a gift for Ernest Ofori Sarpong’s 60th birthday.

Speaking to the media at the birthday celebration held at the Despite Auto Museum on May 5, 2026, the actor said people who do not think deeply may assume Despite and the club members wasted money on alcohol reportedly worth about $10,000 for Dr Ofori Sarpong.

According to Kwaku Manu, the level of wealth built by Despite and members of the club places them in a position where spending such an amount on alcohol does not carry the same weight as critics suggest.

“Before the birthday celebration, when some members of East Legon Executive Fitness Club presented expensive alcoholic beverages, I realised the act stirred some controversy. But I see it as motivation. If you don’t think deeply, you might assume they are wasting money.

“When God blesses you to a certain level, $10,000 begins to feel like just GH¢1,000 because you’ve built that level of wealth,” Kwaku Manu said.

The Kumawood actor then urged young people who aspire to build wealth and become like Despite and Ofori Sarpong to limit unnecessary spending.

“If you are a young person, try to limit how you enjoy life. Many young people today spend money on unnecessary enjoyment. You earn less than GH¢3,000, yet every weekend you’re out ‘chilling’. Let’s say you spend GH¢500 each week, how do you expect to become wealthy? You can’t become wealthy without sacrifice, sometimes even going hungry,” the actor added.

Businessman Osei Kwame Despite, together with other members of the East Legon Executive Fitness Club, honoured Ernest Ofori Sarpong with premium alcoholic beverages ahead of his 60th birthday celebration.

Presenting the drinks on May 1, 2026, Despite led the group and explained that the beverages were delivered four days before the birthday so they could be served to guests during the event.

“Your birthday is four days away. All your friends here have brought you premium alcoholic beverages so you could serve your guests with them,” Despite stated.
