Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has expressed strong confidence in winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, posted on social media on May 5, 2026, the singer stated that her journey and achievements over the past year make her a strong contender for the top award.

“I’m very much hopeful about winning the Artiste of the Year. The funny thing is, last year was my seventh year in the industry and I will be eight years in June. It’s 2025, the year under review, so it’s seven nominations, seventh year. It just makes a lot of sense,” she said.

Wendy Shay reflected on her beginnings in the industry, particularly the challenges she faced after being introduced by her manager, Bullet, following the passing of her former label mate.

“I’m hopeful because looking at how my journey started and how I was introduced by Bullet on that same stage, most of you are aware of the rejection and the position I faced because of the passing away of my label mate,” she stated.

According to her, winning the Artiste of the Year award would mark a significant turning point in her career and serve as motivation for others.

She also pointed to her achievements and statistics over the past year as evidence of her hard work and consistency.

“If I should win this year’s TGMA Artiste of the Year, it’s going to be a paradigm shift and inspiration for a lot of people. Before I come to this, the numbers are already speaking for themselves. I have worked hard and I’ve done whatever any artiste is supposed to do in that category. I have played shows all over,” she shared.

Wendy Shay further revealed that she hosted one of the biggest shows in the country, drawing a massive crowd.

“Last year, I had one of the biggest shows I hosted myself and per the statistics, there were over 100,000 people that showed up. When it was recorded, they said that was the highest number of people they’ve ever seen,” she noted.

She emphasized that such a feat is unprecedented for a female artiste in Ghana’s music history.

“This to be done by a female artiste is something that has never happened in the history of Ghana music,” she said.

She added that her potential win would highlight the importance of perseverance and inspire other female artistes to keep pushing despite challenges.

“It’s going to be a testament and consistency, a testimony of not giving up. Receiving that award could inspire a lot of female artistes. If I could do it regardless of the obstacles I faced, they could also do it,” she added.
