I didn't know my team submitted my TGMA nomination – Gonaboy

Ghanaian musician Gonaboy has revealed that he was unaware that his team had filed his nomination for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Speaking in an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on Onua Show Time, the artiste disclosed that he only found out about his nomination when it was publicly announced.

“My team didn’t tell me they filed for nomination. I didn’t know about the nominations until it was announced,” he said.

According to him, he has been focused on recording music, which may have influenced his team’s decision to keep the process from him.

“I’m in a recording mode for now. I’m doing more of the recording, so I was thinking they didn’t want to distract me, so none of them told me they filed for it,” he explained.

Gonaboy stated that, although they had discussed showcasing their hard work, he was unaware that a submission had already been made.

“We’ve actually discussed among ourselves that we’ve worked hard this year and we need to show our work, but I had no idea they submitted it,” he shared.

He said he came across the news online and was overwhelmed by the recognition.

“I saw it on the internet when it was announced and I was so surprised. It was a big moment for me because growing up, I’ve always watched TGMAs and how the artistes take their awards with excitement,” he noted.

Now nominated in the New Artiste of the Year category, Gonaboy expressed confidence in his chances of winning.

“Now that I’m nominated as the new artiste of the year, I feel like I’ve been recognised. I believe that I deserve to win the award in that category and with God, I will surely win,” he added.
