Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has opened up about why he intentionally avoids listening to songs by his colleague Burna Boy despite being one of his biggest admirers.

In a resurfaced video that is currently trending online, Mr Eazi explained that, Burnaboy’s songwriting ability and deep lyrical content make him one of the musicians he respects the most in the industry.

Mr Eazi pointed to Burna Boy’s popular lyric, “big man wey no dey wear agbada,” as an example of the kind of thoughtful writing he admires.

Explaining the meaning behind the line, Mr Eazi said the phrase challenges the common belief in Nigeria that wealthy men must always display their riches through extravagant dressing, such as wearing an agbada, a traditional attire that is often associated with status and wealth.

He noted that the lyric instead reflects the lifestyle of billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, who, despite their enormous wealth, are often seen dressed in simple T-shirts and trousers without trying to loudly showcase their fortune.

“Big man wey no Dey wear agbada,’ do you know how deep that line is, because like if you’re a big man in Lagos, you have to wear your agbada to show. This is like Elon Musk type, Mark Zuckerberg, just wearing your agbada plain T-shirt,” he said

Mr Eazi further revealed that he deliberately stays away from Burna Boy’s music because they both possess similar low vocal registers, which could easily influence his sound.

“I don’t even like to listen to Burnaboy, I’ve said it before. I have a low voice register as well, and I can sound like him, so I try my best to stay away from his songs,” he explained
