Wendy Shay is a Ghanaian singer
Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has revealed that she received formal music training before venturing fully into the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, shared on social media on May 7, 2026, the musician explained that she attended music school to develop her vocal abilities and better understand how to use her voice professionally.
“I went to music school to learn how to use my diaphragm and my voice. You can have a beautiful voice, but if you don’t know how to use it, you won’t sound as you’re supposed to,” she said.
According to Wendy Shay, she spent four and a half years studying music and also learnt how to play musical instruments during that period.
“I spent four and a half years in school and I learnt how to play instruments. For now, I play the piano, but I think I actually got more into it recently,” she stated.

The singer further explained that after relocating to Ghana to pursue music, she became more focused on breaking into the market and adapting her sound to fit the industry.
“When I came to Ghana, I had to break the market. I had to do a certain sound and with everything that I was going through, I got disconnected from that side of me,” she shared.
Wendy Shay admitted that the pressures and experiences she faced in the industry affected her personally and artistically.
“I was dealing with a whole lot of things, but I think I’m now returning to the old me,” she added.
