Award-winning Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has shared his thoughts on the state of Ghana’s entertainment industry, describing the sector as one that is making progress but still has significant room for improvement.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on the red carpet of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026 held on May 9, 2026, the celebrated actor said that while the industry is not performing poorly, some areas require urgent attention, particularly distribution.

According to Van Vicker, the entertainment industry is “doing well,” although several aspects could be enhanced to help it reach its full potential.

“Ghana’s entertainment industry is doing well, even though there are a lot of improvements that can be made. I won’t say it’s doing badly, but it’s okay,” he said.

He highlighted distribution as one of the biggest challenges confronting industry players.

“I think distribution needs improvement because it’s a major challenge. It’s not bad, but it can be better,” he shared.

The actor also urged stakeholders and observers to focus more on the positive developments within the sector rather than dwelling solely on its shortcomings.

“I don’t think we should dwell too much on the negativity of the sector. Someone will also say that’s the reality and I understand that. I think giving it the positivity that we need is good, but we can do better. I’d rather say this than say it’s bad,” he noted.

Touching on the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, Van Vicker revealed that he prefers to remain neutral when it comes to the competition, citing his close relationships with many musicians in the industry.

“I have too many friends in the music industry, so I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes,” he added.
