Medikal won Hip-pop/Hiplife Artiste of the year
Ghanaian rapper Medikal has come under social media criticism after dedicating his Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year award to his son, Space, during his acceptance speech at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
While receiving the award, the rapper stated that his son played a major role in inspiring his recent success.
“I’m dedicating this award to my son Space, because he inspired me to record this song. Forget everybody,” he said
The gesture has since sparked mixed reactions online, with several social media users questioning why the rapper singled out his son despite having two children.

Medikal shares his first child, Island, with actress and entrepreneur Fella Makafui. Many critics pointed out that the rapper has never publicly dedicated any of his awards to her.
Others also noted that his son, Space, is from his relationship with Ghanaian singer Eazzy Baby, making the dedication appear selective in the eyes of some fans.
A section of users further argued that the rapper could have avoided the backlash by dedicating the award to “his children” collectively instead of mentioning only his son’s name during the speech.
Despite the criticism, some fans defended Medikal, stating that he had the right to dedicate his award to whoever inspired him at that particular moment.
