Nana Akua Addo is a Ghanaian fashion icon
Controversy has arisen after the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in Nigeria, focusing on Ghanaian fashion icon Nana Akua Addo’s outfit.
It may be recalled that Nana Akua Addo became the centre of discussions online following the outfit she wore at the event, with many fashion lovers hailing her as the “Queen of Fashion.”
Following her appearance at the awards night, ALmée Couture, an international fashion design house, took to Instagram to accuse Nana Akua Addo of allegedly stealing their intellectual property.

According to a post shared on May 11, 2026, the fashion house claimed that Nana Akua Addo initially shared the concept of Germany’s Cologne Cathedral with them.
However, after deliberations, she reportedly withdrew her decision to work with the brand and was subsequently refunded.
“The client initially shared a cathedral-inspired concept with us, which served only as the starting point of the discussion. From there, ALmée Couture was fully responsible for developing the final artistic vision, original sketch, silhouette, structural detailing, couture direction, and overall execution of the design,” part of the statement read.
The post further alleged that following Nana Akua Addo’s withdrawal, both parties agreed that ALmée Couture would retain ownership and exclusive rights to the design concept created by the fashion house.
“It was also clearly communicated and mutually acknowledged that ALmée Couture would retain full ownership and exclusive rights to the developed design, sketches, and couture interpretation created by our house,” the statement added.
Responding to the allegations, Nana Akua Addo took to Instagram on May 11, 2026, to dismiss them, insisting that the creative direction and original idea behind the outfit belonged to her.
According to her, the intellectual and creative concept was her own property, and she urged ALmée Couture to desist from making what she described as unwarranted accusations.
She further shared private conversations between her and the designer, suggesting that she was the original idea behind the outfit.
“I reached out to Almeer for my outfit. I shared my idea with you and explained exactly how I wanted it. You mentioned that you didn’t want to execute it the way I envisioned because of how detailed my ideas were. A refund was made, and I eventually got someone else to create it.
“So why and how is it now being claimed as yours?... THE AUDACITY!!!!! THIS WAS MY MOODBOARD, architecture, structure!!!!” she posted.
