Black Sherif ended up winning the TGMA Artiste of the Year over Medikal
A throwback interview of Black Sherif has resurfaced online, capturing a young and then-emerging musician passionately expressing his admiration for Medikal and his desire to collaborate with the rapper.
This interview took place long before the two would become rivals for Ghana’s most prestigious music prize.
In the old conversation with Sammy Flex, a youthful and energetic Black Sherif was asked which artiste he would most love to work with.
He spoke glowingly about Medikal’s talent, describing him as someone whose verse alone could transform a track into a hit.
“Medikal is someone who, if you give him a song to provide a verse and he feels it, he will deliver a mad verse. And I know when he puts his verse on your song, it will be a hit. I want him to feature on my song. If he wants me to feature on one of his songs, I will be excited. Both of us will spoil there,” he said.
The video resurfaced shortly after the conclusion of the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where Black Sherif claimed his second consecutive Artiste of the Year title.
He edged out Medikal, who had enjoyed a remarkable night, winning Best Hiplife Song, Collaboration of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Best Hiplife/HipHop Artiste.
The two were locked in a tense four-all tie in total wins before Black Sherif secured the night’s biggest prize.
The resurfaced clip has since sparked wide conversation online, with fans drawing comparisons between the admiring young artiste in the interview and the celebrated musician who stood on the TGMA27 stage years later as the industry’s best.
