'I have never asked a man for money while dating' - Sista Afia

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has revealed that she has never asked a man for money while in a relationship, despite this common practice among many Ghanaian women.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the “Jeje” hitmaker explained that she makes her own money and therefore does not depend on men financially, even if her partner is wealthy.

“I’ve never asked any man for any amount of money before. When I’m dating a man, I don’t ask them for MoMo because I make my own money, and I know I will always make my own money. It doesn’t matter if the man is rich; it will be worrying if I go with that mentality. I make my own money. If you want to buy for me, I will appreciate it, but don’t expect me to ask you for it,” she noted.

Sista Afia further noted that in many relationships, some men believe that if a woman does not ask them for money, they cannot control her.

She argued that this mindset is flawed, stating that hardworking women who earn their own income should not be seen as competitors.

“Most Ghanaian men like to take care of a woman they can control. The IQ is low. If you get a hardworking woman who makes her own money, respects and loves you, why would you have that mentality that the woman will be competing with you?” she said.

Whiles most well-to-do women shy away from corporate men, popularly referred to as “9-5ers,” the singer mentioned that she is open to dating any type of man.

However, she said she has just been unfortunate not to find someone who understands her both as a woman and beyond her celebrity status, but clarified she is not searching for a relationship.

Sista Afia also noted that she is a sucker for love to the extent that she has dated a couple of guys who made her feel as though she is “too good to be true” because she does not ask for money and she is also a celebrity.
