Ghanaian actor and comedian Yaw Dabo has waded into the conversation surrounding Accra's perennial flooding crisis, urging citizens to take personal responsibility rather than placing all the blame on the government.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on June 10, 2026, Dabo argued that while poor infrastructure plays a role in the flooding crisis, the habits of ordinary Ghanaians are equally to blame.

"All this is just that we should change our mentality. It is not everything that we should put at the feet of government. Look at our gutters. Look at what we are doing to our drainages. We are putting trash into them and causing blockages, that is one of the reasons we are experiencing flooding," he said.

The actor then turned his attention to the Buzstop Boys, a grassroots sanitation group that has gained widespread public admiration for their voluntary clean-up efforts across Accra.

He expressed frustration that no government has yet supported their work with official backing and resources.

"I don't know why we haven't given a group like the Buzstop Boys a government contract. Look at all they have been doing. I haven't seen any government sanitation agency work as hard as that group. If you give them all the equipment they need, within five years there will be no flooding issues," he stated.

Dabo also called for tougher consequences for those caught dumping refuse into waterways, suggesting that they be put to work cleaning drainages around the city.

"Let those who are caught dumping refuse into water bodies be arrested and kept on remand for two weeks. For those two weeks, they should be made to work with the Buzstop Boys to clear drainages around the city," he proposed.
