Jamaican musician Gramps Morgan has shared his thoughts after attending the “Next Steps” High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparatory Justice in Accra.
The conference brought together heads of state, prime ministers, and senior officials from more than 80 countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas to discuss reparations and future actions relating to slavery and colonial exploitation.
Reflecting on the event, Gramps Morgan said he was pleased to be part of the discussions.
“It was an absolute pleasure to be present at this amazing conference so the world can have a conversation about reparations and what the next steps are,” he said.
The musician also described his visit to Ghana as meaningful and expressed hope for continued dialogue on the subject.
“This trip to Ghana is a very interesting one. I am looking forward to the healing of wounds that have taken place over so many years,” he added.
The conference was convened by President John Dramani Mahama in his role as the African Union Champion for Reparations. Discussions focused on moving the international conversation beyond acknowledgements of historical injustices and toward practical measures related to reparatory justice.
Participants from various regions exchanged views on policy directions, cooperation, and the next phase of engagement on the issue.
