Ghanaian musician and activist, Wanlov the Kubolor
Ghanaian musician and activist, Wanlov the Kubolor, has shed light on his habit of walking barefooted, revealing the scientific reasons behind his habit.
Speaking on Joy Prime on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the rapper disclosed, “I stopped wearing shoes since 2007. So next year will be 20 years.
"I have worn shoes to act in movies or for special occasions as a dress code. But not for everyday use.”
Wanlov added that despite buying shoes regularly, none of the purchases have ever been for himself.
"I've bought shoes for others but never for myself," he said.
Beyond lifestyle choice, the musician explained that going barefoot has become a sensory and memory tool for him.
"I'm now addicted to it. In a few months or years, if I'm recalling this conversation, I can remember how the carpet felt under my feet. It makes the memory stronger," he said.

Wanlov also pointed to the scientific practice known as earthing or grounding to justify the health benefits of his habit.
"Humans have liquids in our body which are conductors of electricity. So when you're in contact with the earth, there's current flowing through your body. So it charges your body," he explained, likening it to how buildings are earthed to safely channel lightning strikes.
He added that the effects are sometimes visible, particularly during his travels abroad.
"Sometimes in the west, when I'm going to touch a car or something, I notice a small flash of light between my fingertips and the car," he said.
