'If Bishop asks me to drop his surname, I will' - Florence Obinim

Gospel singer Florence Obinim has spoken about the possibility of rebranding her stage name amid ongoing discussions about challenges in her marriage to Bishop Daniel Obinim.

In an interview on Peace FM on June 25, 2026, she explained that while names may hold sentimental value, they are not the defining factor of a person’s life or calling.

According to her, what matters is the individual’s identity and purpose, which she believes remains intact regardless of a name change, as she trusts that the grace of God will continue to guide her work.

She further addressed questions about whether she would consider dropping her husband’s surname from her professional identity if the situation arises.

Florence stated that she would not resist such a decision if it comes directly from her husband, Bishop Obinim, adding that she would be willing to adopt a new stage name if necessary.

“If Bishop ever asks me to remove his surname from my name, I would do so and choose another name,” she said.

Her comments come at a time when attention has been drawn to reported tensions in the couple’s long-standing marriage.

Over the past few weeks, discussions surrounding their relationship have intensified, with Florence indicating that she would not oppose a formal divorce if her husband chooses to end their 22-year marriage.
