Broadcaster and General Manager of Sompa FM, Akosua Ago Aboagye, has advised women with career ambitions to be intentional about the partners they choose to build families with, stressing that a supportive spouse can make all the difference in balancing motherhood and professional growth.

Speaking at the second edition of Convergence of Mothers organised by media personality MzGee, the veteran broadcaster reflected on her own experience of navigating marriage, motherhood, higher education and a demanding media career simultaneously.

According to her, women who desire to advance in their careers must pay close attention to the character and mindset of the men they choose to marry and have children with.

"If you have a desire to advance in your career, if you have a desire to do something for yourself, the man that you decide to have that baby with is so important," she said.

Ago Aboagye explained that after getting married, she was pursuing a degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) while working as a broadcast journalist and programme host at Hello FM in Kumasi.

Her responsibilities multiplied when she became pregnant and later gave birth, creating what she described as an enormous burden to manage.

Fortunately, she said, her husband was prepared to share the responsibility.

"My burden was huge, but fortunately for me, I had a husband who was ready to support," she recalled.

She recounted how her husband assisted with caring for their children, feeding them and helping manage responsibilities at home while she continued to work and pursue her goals.

According to her, such support is often overlooked in conversations about successful women.

"You cannot say that you want to have babies and advance in your career and then choose any man anyhow," she cautioned.

The broadcaster observed that many women begin promising careers but struggle to sustain them because they lack adequate support at home.

"I have seen a lot of media personalities. They started right, but the man they chose to marry, you can't find them anywhere anymore," she said.

Ago Aboagye stressed that while motherhood and career growth are both achievable, the journey becomes significantly easier when a woman's partner understands and supports her aspirations.

For her, choosing a life partner is not only a romantic decision but also one that can have far-reaching consequences for a woman's personal and professional future.
