Gospel musician Empress Gifty has weighed in on the marital issues involving Bishop Daniel Obinim and his wife, Florence Obinim, using humour to compare how wealthy and less privileged couples handle divorce.

Speaking in a video shared online on June 28, 2026, Empress Gifty questioned why some couples make the divorce process unnecessarily difficult instead of ending their marriages peacefully.

“If you want to divorce, why torment? Saying you’re going to call her mother and all…,” she said.

According to the singer, wealthy couples often settle their marital disputes privately through legal channels without resorting to public confrontations or involving extended family members.

“Poor people’s marriage is just not easy. When the rich are getting a divorce, they just agree, involve both lawyers to sign and they’re done. They can decide to share properties or not and they’re good,” she stated.

She contrasted this with what she described as the experience of less privileged couples, who often have to go through several rounds of mediation involving pastors, counsellors, family heads and relatives before a marriage is officially dissolved.

“For the poor people, they would keep begging and have meetings with the counsellor, pastor, family head and others, but it will still not work,” she shared.

Empress Gifty also recounted the story of a pastor she claimed handled his divorce in a respectful and dignified manner after relocating to the United States.

“I know a pastor who was divorcing his wife; his father made him travel to the US and the divorce was so nice. They didn’t insult and embarrass each other. It’s just all about pen and paper; they sign and share their assets,” she added.
