Accra Floods: Protect your citizens - Keche Joshua pleads with gov't

Ghanaian musician Keche Joshua has appealed to the government and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to take urgent steps to address flooding in parts of the country following the heavy rains that hit Accra on June 29, 2026.

In a post shared on social media, the Keche music group member, expressed concern over the widespread destruction caused by the downpour, saying the videos and photos circulating online were frightening.

"The flooding going on in the country is serious. The videos and pictures I've seen online are scary. Places that have never been flooded before are getting flooded, various roads are blocked, people are losing their lives and properties," he wrote.

Joshua Keche urged authorities to use the aftermath of the floods as an opportunity to implement long-term solutions rather than temporary interventions.

He specifically called on the government, particularly NADMO, to identify buildings constructed on waterways and demolish them while also investing in proper drainage systems to improve the flow of floodwaters.

"I'm begging the government, especially NADMO, that after today they should go around and get a list of buildings on waterways and take them down, as well as construct drains to channel the water so that we can fix this before next year. I beg you. Attend to this. Please," he added.

His comments come after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across parts of Accra, leaving several roads submerged, disrupting traffic, and causing damage to property.

The flooding also sparked renewed calls for authorities to enforce planning regulations and improve the country's drainage infrastructure.
