Diana Hopeson was the first female president of MUSIGA
Ghanaian gospel musician and former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Diana Hopeson, has revealed that becoming the first female president of the union was never part of her personal ambitions.
Speaking on UTV’s UCook with Empress Gifty, Diana Hopeson recounted her journey through the leadership ranks of MUSIGA, explaining that she initially served as the union’s regional treasurer before becoming Second Vice President and later First Vice President.
According to her, despite steadily rising through the ranks, she never desired to become the president because she had witnessed how demanding the position was.
“It wasn’t something I ever thought about doing, because I had been the regional treasurer, then I became the second vice, and later the first vice, and I knew how difficult the job was,” she said

Diana Hopeson said she eventually accepted the role after seeking God’s direction through prayer. She explained that she felt led by God to take up the responsibility and contribute to the growth of the music industry.
She also disclosed that one of the key issues that motivated her was the low participation of gospel musicians in MUSIGA. She said she believed every musician should belong to a professional association because it offers opportunities to learn, network, and adapt to changes within the industry.
“The first time I went for a MUSIGA meeting, I was surprised that the gospel artistes were not there. But once you’re a musician, you have to join your professional association, so I joined, and I rose through the ranks, but the job was difficult,” she said
The veteran gospel musician noted that encouraging more gospel artistes to become members of MUSIGA was one of the changes she hoped to champion during her tenure.
Although she eventually made history as the first female president of MUSIGA, Diana Hopeson stressed that the office was never her dream, but rather a calling she accepted after prayer and a desire to serve the music industry.
