Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has expressed deep disappointment over the wave of xenophobic violence in South Africa, following reports that a Ghanaian businessman was shot dead amid the unrest.

Taking to his X handle on July 2, 2026, the multiple award-winning musician said the situation had left him disturbed, describing South Africa as one of his favourite places.

"Disappointed in one of my favorite places in the world, SA. I know not everyone out there is involved in this, but this is insane and makes no sense!" he wrote.

South Africa disputes Ghana's claim on killing of Ghanaian during protest

Sarkodie called on well-meaning South Africans to take a firmer stand against the xenophobic attacks sweeping across the country.

"I wish my South African brothers and sisters would speak up against this more strongly because it's getting out of hand," he added.

He ended his message with a prayer for the safety of Africans caught up in the violence.

"God help our African brothers and sisters out there," he said.

His comments come amid escalating tension in South Africa following protests led by the anti-migrant group March and March, which set a June 30 deadline demanding that undocumented foreign nationals leave the country.

The unrest has drawn condemnation from rights groups and international bodies, with reports of a Ghanaian businessman's death adding to fears among the diaspora community, although South African authorities have disputed that account.
