Adane Best says musicians worked harder before technology
Comparing music creation from back in the day to the present, Ghanaian Highlife musician Joseph Amoah, popularly known as Adane Best, has argued that technology has made the current generation of musicians lazy.
Speaking in an interview on JoyPrime on July 1, 2026, Adane Best said technological advancement has made it possible for today’s musicians to produce music quickly, unlike in his time when artistes would repeat the same part 10 to 15 times to ensure it came out well.
“Technology has made musicians very lazy these days. Now, they go into the studio and rush through the recording process. Back in our time, we would repeat the same part 10 or even 15 times because we wanted to make sure it came out perfectly,” he said.

Adane Best urged the current generation of musicians to infuse Highlife rhythms into whatever music they create, stressing that the genre’s unique identity should be preserved.
“I want musicians to incorporate Highlife rhythms into every piece of music they create because Highlife’s rhythm and melody are untouchable. They should preserve that identity. If we simply copy the Western world, it will not take us where we want to be,” he said.
Speaking on collaborations, the veteran Highlife musician disclosed that he is planning to feature Dancehall musician Shatta Wale on his latest project.
“I am planning to feature some special personality, a special musician, in my latest work by the name of Shatta Wale,” he said.
When asked whether he had already spoken to the Dancehall artiste, Adane Best replied, “I will speak to him very soon. That’s my boy. I like him. He is very good.”
