'Sometimes, I blame myself for badly influencing the youth' - Showboy

Ghanaian musician and social media personality Showboy has admitted that he played a role in influencing many young people to take up smoking and all other forms of vices.

He has expressed regret over the bad examples he set during the peak of his career.

Speaking while discussing the extradition of socialite Abu Trica and the influence public figures have on young people, Showboy reflected on how he and others embraced an American hip-hop lifestyle that many fans sought to emulate.

According to him, many of the youth looked up to him, and he now believes that some of the choices he publicly displayed negatively impacted them.

“Sometimes I blame somebody like me. I am part of the reason why some of the youth dey fk up. That is why I want to help the youth so they no go fk up,” he stated in English and Pidgin.

Showboy further admitted that he normalised smoking by openly displaying the habit on social media at a time when many celebrities concealed theirs.

He claimed that while other artistes kept their smoking private, he made it appear fashionable, a decision he now deeply regrets.

“I was the first nigga to smoke on the internet. I was the one that made it look cool. When we started smoking, your favourites were hiding… but me, even my mum knows I smoke,” he said

The musician, however, cautioned young people against following in his footsteps, stressing that smoking comes with serious health consequences, including memory loss and other medical complications.

He disclosed that he now experiences memory issues and wishes he had never started smoking, urging the youth to prioritise their health over trying to imitate celebrities.

“Weed is bad… I wish I never smoked. Now I even forget when I say something. Health is wealth. If I make so much money and my health is bad, what’s the point?,” he added
