Probe youth flaunting luxury cars with questionable wealth - Nana Romeo tells EOCO

Media personality Nana Romeo has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to extend its operations beyond office investigations by actively monitoring suspicious displays of wealth on the streets.

Speaking on his Okay FM show on July 9, 2026, Nana Romeo expressed concern over the growing number of young Ghanaians who flaunt luxury vehicles and lavish lifestyles despite having no known legitimate source of income.

According to him, many of these individuals frequently showcase expensive cars and other signs of wealth on social media without any clear explanation of how they acquired such riches.

He urged EOCO to complement its office-based investigations with random street operations, suggesting that officers should stop and question owners of suspicious luxury vehicles to establish the source of their wealth.

"We urge EOCO to leave their offices and take their operations to the streets. If you spot a suspicious vehicle, stop it and investigate the owner's source of wealth. There are people in this country who have no known legitimate jobs but live lavish lifestyles, setting the wrong example for the youth. There are many expensive cars on our roads, and their owners should be properly investigated," he said.

Nana Romeo argued that some young people drive vehicles far beyond what their visible occupations can reasonably support, creating suspicion about how they accumulated such wealth.

He also claimed that some of these individuals use their wealth to influence and take advantage of people’s girlfriends.

He further lamented that some parents compare their hardworking children to people with unexplained wealth, questioning why their own children are not driving luxury cars or building mansions like their peers.

According to him, such comparisons place unnecessary pressure on young people and promote the wrong values.

The broadcaster maintained that if EOCO intensifies investigations into unexplained wealth, it would help restore sanity and discourage people from acquiring wealth through questionable means.

Nana Romeo clarified that his comments were not prompted by the recent arrest and extradition of socialite Abu Trica over his alleged involvement in a romance scam.

He explained that his appeal stemmed from a personal experience, disclosing that someone had done something to him, which motivated him to speak publicly on the issue.
