I will support the idea of cancelling all cleaning contracts and force the citizens to do the cleaning themselves. Maybe when the citizens experience how difficult it is to clean where they live, they will learn sense and stop throwing rubbish around irresponsibly. Nkwasiasem.

Why should businesses have to shut down because of a useless mandatory clean-up exercise? Hold those littering responsible for their acts. If folks wish to volunteer for these clean-ups, they should be free to do so. But don't have chiefs imposing business shutdowns when many of these businesses probably have not contributed to the litter decorating many places across the country. Government agencies have the responsibility to come up with a systems that educates the public about the dangers of littering, as well as enforcing regulations against those caught littering or dumping trash in the wrong places. Calling for a nation-wide clean for a day or two due to an emergency makes sense, but asking that there should be mandatory weekly cleaning exercises is going too far. Even in China where Mao once imposed such draconian practices on his citizens, there no longer is an imposition of forced labour on citizens. You can't use the excuse of a flooding to ask for mandatory cleaning exercises on citizens.
