'Heartbroken' IK Ogbonna finally shares first post since Alexx Ekubo's demise

Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna has shared an emotional tribute to his late best friend and colleague, Alexx Ekubo, reflecting on grief, faith, and the fragility of life following the actor’s death and burial.

In a heartfelt post shared on social media, IK Ogbonna revealed that losing Alexx on May 11 had profoundly changed his outlook on life, describing the late actor as more than a friend but a brother.

“Nothing prepares you for a loss like that,” he wrote, adding that the past few months had been filled with attempts to understand life, loss, and God’s purpose.

The actor said Alexx’s passing made him realise how people often distance themselves from the reality of death until it affects someone close to them.

“Every day we see an ambulance drive past us… We whisper, ‘God have mercy,’ or ‘Rest in peace,’ then continue with our day because somehow, we always believe the person inside belongs to somebody else,” he wrote.

“But the truth is… you never truly understand the weight of death until it’s your own person inside that vehicle,” the post said

Reflecting on the uncertainty of life, he urged people not to take tomorrow for granted.

“Tomorrow is a privilege. Not a promise. All we truly own is this moment,” he stated.

He also recounted the dreams he and Alexx Ekubo once shared, including growing old together, building businesses, creating movies, travelling the world, and raising families.

“We truly believed we had time. Neither of us imagined one of us would leave first. Life had another plan. Or perhaps… God simply had a different plan,” he said.

Despite the pain of the loss, the actor said his faith has helped him find peace.

“As painful as it is… I’ve found peace believing that God’s wisdom is greater than mine. There are questions my heart still asks that my mind cannot answer, but faith reminds me that not every answer is meant to be understood on this side of eternity,” he wrote.

He described Alexx as someone who genuinely impacted the lives of others through love, generosity, and kindness.

“You didn’t merely exist. You loved. You gave. You laughed loudly. You showed up. You carried people. You believed in people,” he said.

According to him, true success is not measured by wealth, fame, or achievements, but by the positive impact a person leaves on others.

“Maybe that’s what a successful life really is. Not how much money we made. Not how many followers we had. Not how many awards sat on our shelves. But how many hearts became better because we existed,” he wrote

He further encouraged people to cherish their loved ones while they still have the opportunity.

“Love people while they can still hear you. Tell them you appreciate them while they can still smile back. Forgive quickly. Call your parents. Check on your friends. Spend time with your family. Laugh more. Hold grudges less. Live intentionally,” he advised.

Ending his tribute, IK Ogbonna thanked Alexx for years of friendship, describing it as one of the greatest honours of his life.

“You may no longer walk beside me… But you will always walk within me. I promise to keep living. To keep building. To keep showing up. To keep chasing purpose. To leave this world better than I met it,” he wrote.

He concluded with a final message that resonated with many of his followers:

“Until we meet again, my brother. Rest well. I love you. Always,” he said

He also left readers with three simple but powerful reminders: “Live intentionally. Love completely. Tomorrow is never promised.”
