Being a celebrity is not easy in Ghana, cut them some slack – Nana Poku Ashis

Artiste manager and entertainment pundit Nana Poku Ashis has shed light on the financial hardships faced by Ghanaian celebrities, especially musicians, revealing that many of them go months without any income after the busy December and January performance season.

Speaking on Okay FM on Wednesday, July 16, 2026, Ashis, who has worked closely with several celebrities, said the entertainment industry's heavy reliance on seasonal performances leaves many artistes financially stranded for the better part of the year.

"It is not easy. You can do shows in December and January and get some cash. But you may not be able to get any performance gigs until August. And that is their only source of income," he said.

The entertainment pundit questioned how celebrities are expected to sustain themselves without any alternative revenue streams.

"How then do you survive from January to August? Nobody is calling you. No performance gigs? What are you going to do?" he asked.

Ashis used the platform to appeal to the public to show more empathy towards Ghanaian entertainers rather than being quick to criticise them over financial decisions or lifestyle choices.

"Our celebrities in this country go through a lot. We should cut them some slack," he said.
