Final preparations reach climax for Apostle Kwadwo Safo's state-scale farewell

Preparations for the burial and final funeral rites of the late Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing. Kwadwo Safo have entered their final stages, with his family, children, and the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission united in their determination to accord the revered spiritual leader, industrialist, inventor, technologist, farmer, and philanthropist a befitting farewell.

Following initial discussions surrounding succession matters, the family has put all differences behind them and is now singularly focused on celebrating the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of one of Ghana's greatest innovators, visionaries, and nation-builders.

As previously announced, the burial ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Kantanka Automobile Manufacturing Centre at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, the industrial hub established by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, where his vision of a wholly Ghanaian automobile manufacturing industry took shape.

In accordance with his last testament, Apostle Kwadwo Safo left detailed instructions on how he wished to be remembered by future generations. In fulfilment of those wishes, a magnificent memorial edifice has been constructed within the industrial complex to preserve his legacy.

The memorial will house his personal effects, including his attire, footwear, tools, inventions, prototypes, and selected works, creating a permanent repository of his life's achievements and offering future generations the opportunity to appreciate his immense contributions to Ghana's industrialisation, technological advancement, and national development.

The national funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Accra, where tens of thousands of mourners from across Ghana and abroad are expected to gather to pay their final respects to the distinguished statesman of industry, innovation, and faith.

The funeral is expected to attract an unprecedented gathering of dignitaries from across the political, traditional, religious, diplomatic, and business communities. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead the nation's tribute, accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, ministers of state, and senior government officials.

Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have also expressed their willingness to attend the funeral in honour of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo.

Joining them will be the former Vice President of the Republic and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, together with the national executives of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, together with Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority Caucuses, are also expected to attend.

In a rare parliamentary honour, the Speaker has directed that a statement be made on the floor of Parliament in memory of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo. Members from both sides of the House are expected to pay tribute to his extraordinary contributions to Ghana's industrial, scientific, and technological advancement.

As part of Parliament's tribute, Parliament TV will broadcast a special documentary throughout the week, chronicling the remarkable life, inventions, and achievements of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, highlighting his pioneering role in engineering, automobile manufacturing, agriculture, education, and national development.

The funeral at the Black Star Square will also witness the participation of thousands of members of the Kristo Asafo Mission from every region of Ghana, as well as delegations from the Church's international missions, who will join family, friends, admirers, and well-wishers in celebrating the life of their founder and spiritual leader.

The final funeral observances will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, where family members, members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, friends, sympathisers, and the general public will gather to give thanks for the life of a man whose vision transformed lives and inspired generations.

Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing. Kwadwo Safo leaves behind an unparalleled legacy of innovation, self-reliance, industrial excellence, and service to humanity. Through his pioneering work in automobile manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, education, science, and technology, he demonstrated that Africans possess the ingenuity and capacity to solve their own developmental challenges.
