'I've never seen my mum date any man since my dad died' – Veekee James

Nigerian fashion designer and entrepreneur Veekee James has paid tribute to her mother, revealing that she has remained single since the death of her husband, choosing instead to dedicate her life to raising her children.

Speaking during a conversation on a podcast, Veekee James recounted how her mother declined the idea of remarrying shortly after her father's passing.

"Until today, I've never seen my mother with any man. Not even once have I seen her dating a man. The only one time that I saw one man trying to talk to her, I don't know what happened, but it just ended," she said.

According to Veekee James, her mother's commitment to her children was evident in the sacrifices she made over the years.

"Since I lost my dad until today, my mum has never slept out of the house except for a night vigil that we would be going to," she stated.

She recalled that after her father's death, one of their pastors asked her mother whether she intended to remarry, but she declined.

"I remember when my dad passed, one of our pastors in church asked her if she was going to remarry, but she said no. She said she wanted to give her life to raising her children," she recounted.

Veekee James also praised her mother for working tirelessly to provide for the family, noting that she built a reputation as a skilled fashion designer in their community.

"She obviously hustled and there's no one in my area who doesn't know my mum. She's a designer too and I learnt the basics of tailoring from her," she shared.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Veekee James said her mother's character and resilience played a significant role in shaping the values she and her siblings hold today.

"I believe that the kind of person she was when we were growing up also impacted us. She was raising three children, so I thought she was supposed to be following a man to support, but she didn't. Who a person is, raising a child, is also very important," she added.
