Ghanaian content creator based in the Netherlands, Kofi Gharbin, popularly known as Mr Happiness, has encouraged men to learn how to cook before tying the knot, stressing that it is an important life skill and a key responsibility of being the head of a household.

Speaking on Hitz FM on July 22, 2026, he said cooking should not be seen as a duty meant only for women, insisting that every man should be able to take care of himself and his family even before getting married.

“I love cooking. Food is life. The stomach is the centre of life. Why would you give that part of your life for somebody else to control?” he said.

Mr Happiness explained that men should be independent enough not to depend entirely on their wives when it comes to preparing meals.

“As a man, you are the head of the house. You have to know how to cook before you bring a helper, a woman, into your life,” he stated.

He added that men who cannot cook may find it difficult to run their homes in situations where their wives are unavailable, such as during childbirth or illness.

“If you don’t know how to cook, don’t marry. If you are married and you have your first child, maybe your mother will come and help. Two or three years later, you decide to have your second child. If your wife is at the hospital and your first child is hungry, as the husband, will I have to call my mother to come and cook?” he questioned.

He also cited the Bible to support his view, saying the description of a woman as a helper implies that a man should already be capable of managing his home before getting married.

“The Bible says the man leads and the woman is the helper. For you to get a helper means you are already doing something effectively. A man who cannot handle his home shouldn’t marry,” he added.
