Ghana's film industry moves at a slower pace than Nigeria's – BamBam

Nigerian actress and reality TV star Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as BamBam, has opened up about the differences she observed between Ghana's and Nigeria's film industries after working on a movie project in Ghana.

According to her, one of the biggest contrasts was the pace of production, explaining that while Nigerian film sets are often fast-paced, Ghanaian productions take their time to perfect every scene.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music on July 22, 2026, BamBam mentioned that she was initially surprised by how long it took the Ghanaian production team to prepare each scene.

"In Nigeria, when you do cinema movies and YouTube movies, the experiences are completely different. At one point, I didn't really understand why they took so much time to reset, arrange for lights and all of that. In Nigeria, everything was fast-paced," she said.

She revealed that she even questioned whether filming would take several weeks because of the time spent setting up each scene.

"Here in Ghana, production takes their time. They don't rush anything and they can spend two to three hours setting up the set. I was asking when we were going to finish shooting the film or if they were planning to keep me here for two to three weeks. They then said that's the process, and the director was confused," she recounted.

Despite initially finding the slower pace unusual, BamBam noted that she later came to appreciate the attention to detail that characterises Ghanaian filmmaking.

"Filmmaking here is much slower, but I think it's because I'm from a faster-paced environment where everybody is always on the go. That's why it felt different for me. I'm not going to lie, now I appreciate it," she stated.

The actress added that returning to Nigeria after filming in Ghana made her realise just how intense the pace of life and work is back home.

"When I went back to Nigeria, the cultural shock hit me. I was like, 'Can they even calm down?' I had just come back from Ghana, where everything was slower, and immediately I returned to a fast-paced environment. The pressure is just so much in Nigeria," she shared.

Beyond the difference in pace, BamBam also praised Ghana's veteran actors and filmmakers for their humility and professionalism.

"After filming in Ghana, I also realised that your legends here are so down to earth. We had conversations, we had drinks afterwards. There wasn't much difference in terms of the spirit of excellence. It was just the pacing that stood out for me, how everybody brings their A-game and how the director is patient enough to help you bring out the best in yourself," she added.
