'I survived Liberia's civil war as a baby; that's enough reason to thank God' – Adina

Award-winning Ghanaian singer Adina Thembi has reflected on her remarkable survival during Liberia's civil war, describing her life as a testimony to God's grace and protection.

According to the singer, she was born in Liberia at the height of the conflict and believes she could easily have lost her life under the dangerous circumstances her family endured.

Speaking in an interview on Pulse Ghana on July 23, 2026, Adina recounted how her mother risked everything to keep her and her sister safe while fleeing the violence.

"I was born in Liberia during the civil war; I could have died. That little girl on the back of my mother who didn't cry when they were passing through the rebel camp because any sound could have literally woken them up to kill all of us," she said.

The 'Too Late' hitmaker recalled that her mother would shield her children with her own body whenever gunshots rang out, hoping to protect them from stray bullets.

"I'm the little girl that my mum would hear the gunshots, put my sister and I on the floor and cover us with her back so that when there's any stray bullet, it won't touch us, and I'm here today," she recounted.

Adina stated that surviving such a traumatic beginning has shaped her perspective on life.

She also noted that she always remembers where she came from whenever she faces challenges.

"What again do I want from God? With that alone, I'm so grateful to God. Going through life and all the challenges, I always start from the beginning of how I came up and I'm here. The fact that I'm still here and counting is a testament that God is real," she added.
