Ras Kuuku says only those who don't understand music deny Daddy Lumba's greatness
In paying tribute to the late Daddy Lumba, Reggae musician Ras Kuuku has described the legendary
Highlife legend as the greatest musician Ghana has ever produced.
Speaking on Hitz FM on July 27, 2026, Ras Kuuku stated that anyone who disagrees with that assertion does not understand music. According to him, people who genuinely appreciate and understand music recognise Daddy Lumba as Ghana's greatest musician of all time.
“Daddy Lumba is the greatest of all time. The GOAT of Ghana music, no doubt about that. Anyone who argues otherwise, then that person doesn’t know what he or she is talking about. To me, and those who love and understand music, we all know that Daddy Lumba is the GOAT,” he said.
Ras Kuuku explained that long before artificial intelligence and modern technology became part of music production, Daddy Lumba consistently produced timeless hit songs, which he believes is proof of the late musician's exceptional talent and greatness.
“Way back when we had no AI and no technology to help musicians create their music, Daddy was there. He made sure that he gave us back-to-back hits. He was the main pillar, the inspirational pillar behind our fathers, mothers, uncles, sisters and nieces who were up there in Germany, Italy, France and other places. They looked up to him because of his music,” he noted.
He added that Daddy Lumba's music continues to stand the test of time because of its quality and enduring appeal.
“When you listen to ‘Meyɛ Aka Akwantumu’, ‘Sika’, ‘Me Mpaebo’, ‘Ankwanoma’ and all those songs, you get to know that, even in those times when there was no AI or internet to support music production, he made sure he delivered quality music. Till date, when you play his songs, even for hours, you get to understand that Daddy truly understood music,” he said.
The Reggae musician further argued that Daddy Lumba's music has created livelihoods for many people, particularly owners of drinking spots and entertainment venues, where his songs continue to attract customers.
“He has shown so many people the way. It’s just that people are ungrateful. He has helped so many people. He has fed them and given Ghana music life. The reason is that when you go to drinking spots in Ghana and see the number of times they play Daddy’s songs, you realise that people make money from his music,” he said.
According to Ras Kuuku, although he had admired Daddy Lumba for years, he never had the opportunity to meet him personally until he was invited to perform at the legend's 60th birthday celebration in September 2024.
He recalled being recognised as one of the night's best performers and receiving three salutes from Daddy Lumba during his performance.
“I have never met him in my personal life, face-to-face like this. On his 60th birthday, I was invited to perform, and they chose me as one of the best performers on that night. I remember when I was performing, he got up three times and saluted me,” he added.
Legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, passed away on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was laid to rest on December 13, 2025.
