'You're required to answer your name with your prison sentence' — Agradaa recounts

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has opened up about her experience in prison, describing it as one of the most difficult periods of her life.

Speaking during a recent TikTok Live session, Agradaa urged Ghanaians to stay on the right side of the law, stressing that prison is a harsh reality that spares neither the rich nor the poor.

According to her, one of the most painful experiences she endured was having to respond to her prison sentence whenever her name was called.

"In prison, when they mention your name, you would have to respond with the number of years you were sentenced. This hurts so bad. When I was in prison, nothing made me feel worse than hearing my name and having to answer with 15 years," she said.

Agradaa disclosed that she often struggled to say the sentence aloud because she refused to accept the reality of the punishment.

"Sometimes, I didn't even answer loudly for someone to hear because I said I wouldn't accept the 15-year sentence," she stated.

She noted that her time in prison taught her valuable lessons and warned the public against engaging in activities that could land them behind bars.

"I wouldn't wish this on my enemy. It wasn't easy for me in prison. You all should be careful out there because prison is real. It doesn't know the rich or the poor," she shared.

The evangelist further explained that prison constantly reminds inmates of their situation, even when they try to distract themselves.

"If you're there and you forget you're in prison, immediately your name is mentioned, you will remember where you are," she said.

Agradaa further shared what she described as one of the most frightening realities of being in jail, claiming that inmates who die while serving their sentences do not automatically have their bodies released to their families.

"The scary part is, when you die in prison, your corpse is not for your family anymore. Your family can't go and claim the dead body to bury and organise your funeral. Since you're in prison, you belong to the government," she added.
