I had to cut off my 'prison bestie' because she was feisty like me - Agradaa

Evangelist Patricia Asiedu Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has recounted her time in prison, where she became friends with an inmate who provided food for her but had a habit of fighting and cursing.

According to her, the ‘prison bestie’ was someone who frequently fought with officers, inmates and used abusive language, forcing her to end the friendship with that person.

Speaking on why she eventually had to cut her off, Agradaa explained that she also struggled with fighting and other vices, which eventually led her to prison, and that she would not allow anyone or anything interfere with her journey to becoming someone new.

“The person who befriended me and provided food for me in prison was someone who loved fighting and cursing. I said to myself, ‘I have also been fighting for a long time, and it has landed me in prison. I have come to prison to change, yet my friend fights with officers and inmates every day.’ So, I had to quit being friends with that person,” she asserted.

Addressing her congregants, Nana Agradaa said such friendships could prevent people from experiencing transformation, urging them to quit such relationships.

She then advised people to distance themselves from friends who do not lead them to the word of God but rather encourage them to participate in activities such as nightclubs, prostitution and alcoholism.

“If you intend to change the person, advise them for six months. If they do not listen, leave them alone because, if you are not strong, such a person would bring you down.

“If you are listening to the word of God and want to repent, but you have a friend who does not talk to you about God and instead leads you to nightclubs, prostitution and alcoholism, quit that person. Run away because such a person will not help you,” she stated.

Nana Agradaa was initially sentenced on July 3, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court to 15 years’ imprisonment on two counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement.

The conviction followed a 2022 televised broadcast in which she announced that she would share GH¢300,000 with members of the public. However, she was found to have collected various sums of money from individuals without making any disbursements.

Her lawyers later challenged the sentence at the Amasaman High Court, arguing that the punishment was excessive.

In a ruling delivered in February 2026, Justice Solomon Oppong-Twumasi reduced the custodial term to 12 calendar months, leading to the evangelist’s release in March 2026.
